A world without hate

Image Annapurna Pictures is ready to tell the audience about one of the most famous crimes of racial hatred. According to The Tracking Board, the Hollywood studio is starting work on the film adaptation of Anand Giridharadas's book A Real American: Murder and Mercy in Texas.

The biographical drama tentatively titled "A Real American" will focus on former Bangladesh Air Force officer Rice Buyan, who came to the United States in search of a better life. In America, Rice found new friends who helped him get a job at a small grocery store in Texas.

On September 21, 2001, a man armed with a shotgun burst into the store. Buyan thought that he was being robbed and began to open the cashier, but the offender suddenly asked: "Where are you from?", And then immediately shot the seller in the face.

The attacker turned out to be Mark Anthony Stroman, who after the events of 9/11 declared himself a "murderer of the Arabs." Six days before the attack on Buyan, he shot and killed the Pakistani Wakar Hassan, and subsequently killed the Indian Vasudev Patel. As a result, the police still managed to get on the trail of the insane criminal. Although Stroman's shot took him out of sight in one eye, Rice opposed the racist being sentenced to capital punishment.

Stroman was executed in July 2011. As for Bouillant, he recovered from his injury and organized the "World Without Hatred" movement, designed to prevent crimes motivated by racial, religious and other hatred.

The picture has been in development since the spring of 2014. Initially, the director's chair of the drama was planned to be taken by Katherine Bigelow, who wanted to invite Tom Hardy and Reese Ahmed to the main roles. As a result, the Oscar-winning director decided to confine herself to producing functions, and Pablo Larrain took her place at the helm of the project.

The Chilean intends to bet on another acting duo. Kumaila Nanjiani (Love Is a Disease) was invited to portray Rice Buyan, and Mark Ruffalo (In the Spotlight) is looking into the role of Stroman.

Katherine Bigelow's production team will include Matthew Badman (American Scam) and four-time Oscar-nominated Megan Ellison (Phantom Thread).
