Tom Hanks wants to scold Pinocchio

Image The Disney studio dreams of turning most of its cartoons into feature films, and one such project is the new version of Pinocchio. It has been in development for several years, but with the appointment of Paul King to the post of director, there has finally been some progress in the work on the film. According to the Collider portal, the director has already chosen an actor for the role of Geppetto: Tom Hanks is negotiating with Disney.

In the classic cartoon, released back in 1940, Geppetto was a wood craftsman who dreamed of a son. Therefore, he sculpted the doll and wished it to turn into a living boy. The fairy fulfilled the old man's wish: Pinocchio came to life, but remained a wooden puppet. Geppetto did his best to protect his creation, and in an attempt to find the lost Pinocchio, the carpenter faced the evil producer Stromboli and a giant sea monster.

Jack Thorne ("Miracle"), director Paul King himself and Chris Weitz ("Cinderella") managed to put their hands on the script of the film, but the source writes that Simon Farnaby, King's colleague on "The Adventures of Paddington 2", is now working on the text. The preliminary budget for Pinocchio is estimated at $ 150 million, and filming should start next summer.

While Hanks is only negotiating with the studio, so his participation in the work on the picture is not a final decision. As with Will Smith and Aladdin, Disney bosses will have to shell out a hefty sum to get their hands on the winner of two Oscars. On the other hand, "Pinocchio" is a great opportunity for Hanks to work in the genre of family films, because in recent years the actor has preferred serious dramas. In addition, Paul King is one of the few contemporary filmmakers whose film (The Adventures of Paddington 2) has earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
