MIFF-2012: review of the film ”Children of Hitler”
The program "Free Thought" within the 34 MIFF has existed for seven years. During this relatively short time, she won the trust of the audience, and most importantly, their deep interest.Free Thought is a treasure trove of documentary films, significant for the world cinema. Directors from different countries present films that are different from each other, but equally surprising and interesting to the viewer. Free Thought opened its doors on June 22 with one of the most significant documentaries of 2012 - Children of Hitler, directed by Israeli director Hanokh Zeevi. And this is very curious, because at this stage in the development of Israeli cinema there is a real explosion of documentary films. These films are absolutely diverse and are popular with the audience. Therefore, the painting "Children of Hitler", which, moreover, was the winner of all Israeli festivals and some of the international festivals, is very suitable for starting one of the most important and interesting programs of the Moscow International Film Festival Free Thought . It's no secret that Adolf Hitler had no children, and his closest associate, Joseph Goebbels, committed suicide with his wife, also poisoning his six children. These people left no descendants and their family was interrupted. And as for Hermann Goering, Heinrich Himmler, Hans Frank, Amon Goeth? Who are their successors? How do their children and grandchildren feel and live? What was inherited from the main representatives of the Third Reich? The film is divided into five stories, each of which is dedicated to the descendants of H. Goering, H. Himmler, A. Eichmann, H. Frank and A. Geth.      The first story : the grand-niece of the second after Hitler man - Goering , living in self-imposed exile in the American outback. Once, having learned with his brother about the bloody past of their grandfather, they deliberately subjected themselves to sterilization so that the Goering clan would not have further existence. These people could not bear the burden placed on them by a bloody ancestor. Second story : the great-granddaughter of Heinrich Himmler tells that she has come to terms with the blood that she got, because this is not the most important thing. After all, this blood does not affect her worldview. She married the son of Holocaust survivors and is happily raising her child. But still, she admits that it is very difficult when you bear a last name and are a descendant of a man who killed millions of people. She tries not to remember her great-grandfather. Third Story : The son of Hans Frank who despises his father's past. Throughout his adult life, he has been engaged in research, and also travels throughout Germany with lectures in which he condemns the Nazi regime and his parents. He himself has one daughter, who gave birth to three grandchildren. The fourth story : the son of Adolf Eichmann , who also despises his father's past. He travels with a man whose ancestors survived the Holocaust to Auschwitz, where he meets with a group of Jewish youth. When asked to him“What would you do with your father if you saw him now?” He replies “I would kill him”. The fifth story : the daughter of Amon Geta , telling about her life as a child; that when her mother was asked what people were doing in the work camp where her father worked, she was severely beaten with a wire. Only years later did she learn that her father was in charge of the murder of millions of people. Accordingly, she despises the Nazi regime. The stories told by these people are of incredible value, making an absolutely startling impression, evoking compassion and horror. All these people are united by the burden imposed independently by their ancestors. Bloody, terrifying. Not everyone is able to live in peace with a surname that immediately evokes associations with murder and genocide. The heroes of the film are people who cannot escape from the past of their grandfathers and fathers ... They are the heirs of the blood of those terrible executioners, but not the heirs of their ideology. Children of Hitler is a film saturated with pain and bitterness of the descendants of the main Nazis, which reveals to us in different ways the tragic fates of the heroes.
