Review of the cartoon The Good Dinosaur. What if ...?

Like all Pixar movies, The Good Dinosaur has a vast catalog of tools to keep adults and kids alike entertained and thoughtful. But none of the five authors of the story named in the credits took advantage of the most important and, more importantly, a new tool that was advertised in full in all promotional materials: the fact that the story of the friendship of a boy and a dinosaur unfolds in an alternative history of the Earth, where the meteorite flew past our home planet and the dinosaurs not only survived, but also grew wiser.

The question asked by the creators “ What if … ” turned into nothing more than a convenient footboard for the plot, helping to bring people and ancient reptiles together in one world, but which did not provoke practically any fantasy about how such a world would look in reality. The lack of exploration of the alternative universe and the actual relationship between dinosaurs and humans as individuals cannot but turn out to be a disappointment for some sophisticated viewers.

Only this does not mean that the movie has failed. In contrast, from the “ The Good Dinosaur ” a very simple and clear story about overcoming your own fears came out, unfolding against the backdrop of mesmerizing animated landscapes, at the sight of which you just want to rub your eyes. The detail of nature around the main characters amazes the imagination to such an extent that you often look not so much at the characters as at the surrounding areas: rocks, forests, rivers, ice. They never tire of surprising over and over again, much more so than the story itself.

The main characters in the picture are also insanely cute and unexpectedly organic in a hyperrealistic setting. Arlo and Spot win sympathy for the expressiveness of facial expressions and gestures, in which there is a place for countless jokes and a couple of truly magical, touching moments, understandable without any words, which in this case would only ruin everything. Director Peter Son remained true to his promises to tell the story not in dialogues, but in a visual language that is equally understandable to everyone without exception.

Therefore, the “ Good Dinosaur ” is a versatile movie that, unlike, for example, `` Puzzle '', on which opinions are divided, is guaranteed to be equally interesting and touching for adults and their children. Let this universality be allowed by the creators to the detriment of history, which ends up being overly simplistic and familiar. The main characters, settings and obstacles on the way may change, but the essence of the story about a child looking for a way home, its logical and moral core, remains intact in The Good Dinosaur. The creators have nothing to add to the message of even the `` Lion King '', which Peter Son and his team sometimes quote literally literally. Therefore, the very existence of this picture seems somewhat senseless, albeit quite justified not only by the quality of the animation, but also by the skill of the storytellers.

After all, the “ Good Dinosaur ” really gets sucked into action very quickly, offering as always an almost perfect combination of humor, action and sadness. Pixar wizards continue to deftly juggle with the audience's emotions, which makes the movie unrestrainedly rich in impressions. It is impossible to leave a session indifferent, even if the music never pierces through the heart or the journey ends too quickly. After all, just seeing all these incredible places bathed in gentle sunshine on a large screen in stereoscopic format justifies all the money invested in going to the cinema. Technically, you've definitely never seen anything like it.

“ The Good Dinosaur ” just can't be considered a disappointment. This is a sweet, gentle and ultimately positive movie that is not afraid to show young viewers that different characters meet on the path of life: some gradually turn into loyal friends, while others – into unscrupulous enemies. However, this does not mean that the world should be feared. On the contrary, it is worth discovering, exploring and comprehending, because as one wise Tyrannosaurus said, `` if you are not scared, you do not know life. ''
