James Cameron showed the future of cinema

Avatar Creator James Cameron held a presentation in Las Vegas of what, in his opinion, in the near future will make a new revolution in cinema - a short high-frequency movie.

The audience was offered three versions of a demonstration movie, shot from a standard at 24 frames per second, as well as at 48 and 60 frames per second. Filming was carried out using cameras Arri Alexa, Red Epic and Phantom, respectively.

The opinion of experts and ordinary viewers was unanimous: already at a frequency of 48 frames per second, the quality of the video sequence changed dramatically for the better, and the load on the eyes was significantly reduced .

The peculiarity of the revolution proposed by Cameron lies in the fact that that the American movie industry will not have to completely re-equip technically, and therefore investment in this process will not be so great.

The fact is that all modern camcorders, which are used to shoot most Hollywood movies, can shoot at a frequency of up to 220 frames per second. As for modern projection systems, they only need a software update to be able to reproduce high-frequency video.

As for the need to process significantly more frames in the event that the movie is saturated with special effects, this will increase the budget movie project by only 5-10 percent. All movies shot at 48 frames per second or more can be played back using conventional projection systems.

Cameron emphasized that that his experiments with high-frequency video were fully supported by George Lucas and Peter Jackson. The latter even movieed several episodes on the site of The Hobbit, and only illness did not give him enough time to convince the movie company to shoot the entire movie at an increased frequency.

Note that the standard of 24 frames per second was approved in the middle 20s of the last century and has not changed since then.
