ABC is adapting the famous novel Little Women

ABC has received the rights to movie the classic novel "Little Women" by American writer Louise May Alcott. The network will team up with Natasha McElhone to design and create a contemporary version of the piece. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming TV show "Little Women", which will be produced by ABC Signature, will focus on the four sisters. Their growing up takes place against the backdrop of a military scandal in which their family is drawn. As a result of the scandal, the family loses its fortune and position in the conservative and traditional society of which they are members.

McElhone ("Californication") will play in a limited series, which is positioned as a historical, the main role, and will also serve as executive producer with Alison Owen ("Dancing on the Edge") and Julie Ann Robinson ("Selfie"). The latter has been appointed director of the television project, which will be scripted by Jordan Roberts (City of Heroes).

Little Women was adapted for television twice by the BBC in the 1950s and 1970s. Animated series were shot twice based on the book in the 80s of the last century. On the big screen, the most recent version of Little Women came out in 1994, starring Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst and Christian Bale.
