Sony Pictures demanded to stop publishing stolen files

Sony Pictures Entertainment has warned the major American media against the publication of materials that have been stolen from the company's servers by a group of hackers calling themselves "Peace Defenders". This was reported by The New Yourk Times, which, among others, received a message from Sony Pictures attorney David Boyes.

"The studio did not transfer the rights to you, nor did it give consent to review, copy, distribute, download, transfer or otherwise use its materials," the lawyer said in a letter. It also emphasizes that the studio is looking forward to working with the media to find and destroy its documents.

The message admits for the first time that hackers are releasing documents in order to "prevent the studio's movie from being released." It is about the comedy "Interview", in which two main characters are assigned to kill the head of the DPRK.

Recall that on Sunday, December 15, 2014, "Peace Defenders" announced the release of a new batch of files, which, in particular, contain the correspondence of the head of the international rental department of the company, Steve O'Dell. Earlier, the hackers promised a "big gift" to Sony Pictures for Christmas, without specifying what it was about.
