CBS has officially announced the launch of a comedy pilot starring Matthew Perry. This is a reboot of Neil Simon's Broadway play Strange Couple. The Hollywood Reporter reports this with reference to CBS.

Matthew Perry (Friends) and Joe Keenan (The Losers) will write the script for the pilot episode. Danny Jacobson, who was listed as a co-writer in the negotiating stage, has left the project.

Perry will also executive produce alongside Karl Beverly, Eric and Kim Tennenbaum, and Sara Timberman.

Recall that the main characters of the play, a couple of friends – sloppy and carefree Oscar Madison and neat and boring Felix Unger - are forced to live in the same apartment. Perry will play Oscar. The casting for the role of Felix is still pending.

The 1968 play Strange Couple was based on Simon's play. with Walter Mattau (Oscar) and Jack Lemmon (Felix) in the lead roles, and exactly 30 years later, in 1998, there was a sequel with the same actors – Strange Couple 2. In 1970, a television series starring Jack Klugman and Tony Randall was movieed and ran for five seasons on ABC.
