NBC and Law & Order franchise creator Dick Wolfe will continue to develop the popular brand of – this time in the anthology format "Law & Order: True Crime". The script project, currently in development at the time of this writing, will focus on famous real-life crimes in a similar way to the FX anthology American Crime Story, which focused its first season on the OJ Simpson case. This is reported by the Deadline.

The eight-episode first season of the NBC anthology examines the case of the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Eric, who were convicted of the cold-blooded murder of their parents. Film producer Jose Menendez was shot in the head at his Beverly Hills mansion on the night of August 20, 1989, and his wife, Kitty Menendez, was riddled with bullets. The crime scene looked so horrible that the police initially suggested a mafia showdown. The brothers received a life sentence without parole in 1996. At the time of the crime in 1989, Lyle was 21 years old and Eric was 18 years old.

Wolfe, an active collaborator with NBC, has four scripted series on the channel, each of which has been renewed for the next season: " Law & Order Special Victims Unit, Chicago On Fire, Chicago Police Force and Chicago Doctors, and a Chicago Justice spin-off is under development.
