Downton Abbey star to star in Steven Soderbergh's western

Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery has been cast as the female lead in the Netflix miniseries "Godless," which is co-produced by Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank, who co-starred in 1998's Out of Sight. This is reported by Deadline.

Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Dockery has joined previously approved male lead roles by Jeff Daniels (News) and Jack O'Connell (Unbreakable) in the historical western drama, which will premiere on Netflix in 2017.

In "Godless," main character Frank Griffin (Daniels), a dangerous criminal, terrorizes the West in search of Roy Goode (O'Connell), his former accomplice, who has turned into a sworn enemy. While Roy hides in Alice Fletcher's (Dockery) ranch, the pursuit leads Frank to the quiet town of La Belle, New Mexico, which for some strange reason is run exclusively by women.

Soderberg, Frank and Casey Silver will share the functions executive producers. Frank will also take on the duties of screenwriter and TV director. The miniseries also stars Merritt Weaver, Jeremy Bobb and Thomas Sangster.

Dockery recently wrapped up movieing for TNT's "Good Behavior," which will debut this fall, and starred in Ritesh's movie. Batra "Sense of an Ending".
