Downton Abbey may receive a sequel

Image The phenomenal success of Downton Abbey at the US box office last month naturally sparked rumors of a possible sequel to the wide-screen romance of the English aristocracy. Unconfirmed reports have surfaced in the British media that the producers have already ordered Julian Fellowes, the lead writer, to develop ideas for a future sequel or a new spin-off.

According to the plot of the film, King George V and Queen Mary are going to visit Downton Abbey. The servants of the estate will have to try to adequately receive the august persons, and they cannot do without the help of an old friend. In just a month at the box office, the tape grossed 100 million pounds, of which more than half were collected in the United States. According to sources, the film's crew is incredibly happy, because no one expected such a breakthrough. In an interview on television, lead singer Elizabeth McGovern hinted that the creators still have many ideas for a possible sequel.

Downton Abbey is a drama series that aired from 2010 to 2015. A kind of chronicle of the life of the British aristocratic Crowley family and numerous servants in the early 20th century easily won the hearts of the audience with voluminous characters and unexpected plot twists. The film crew included Maggie Smith, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery and other famous British actors. In six seasons, the series has earned three Golden Globes and is ranked 106th on IMDb's TV show rating.

Co-producer of the film, Gareth Nim, noted that it is not easy to transfer a project from television to a wide screen - it is risky and atypical for the film business. However, the success of the feature-length "Downton Abbey" among Western audiences showed that the creators should think about returning to their favorite story again.

The premiere of the film in USA is scheduled for November 21.
