The current third season of the drama "Hannibal" will be the last. NBC shut down Brian Fuller's series after its third season, which will end on September 3, 2015. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Sources of the publication suggest that the decision to close the show was caused due to the lack of rights to the character of Clarice Starling, whom Fuller wanted to introduce in the fourth season.

“NBC allowed us to create a TV series that no public channel would dare to, and released it for three years,” Fuller said in a statement. “Jen Salk from NBC Entertainment and her team were amazing partners and supported us on a creative level. "Hannibal" will finish its last meal at the NBC table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine. Personally, I am looking forward to my next meal with NBC. " >

The drama, starring Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen, returned to the channel with a third season, which was watched by 2.57 million viewers on June 4, 2015. The second episode a week later attracted even fewer viewers - 1.66 million.

Fuller has already signed a deal to be showrunner on the upcoming Starz series American Gods, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman.
