George Lucas abandons plans to build a museum in Chicago

George Lucas has abandoned the idea of creating an interactive museum of contemporary art in Chicago. The corresponding statement was published by the Chicago Business. The reason is the protracted confrontation between the city authorities and the public organization Frends of the Parks, seeking to ban the construction.

The latter was not satisfied with both the places for construction proposed by the authors of the project. In particular, the main building of the museum was supposed to be built on the site of a large parking lot, where football fans usually gathered. "In the endless litigation with Frends of the Parks, which seeks to protect the parking lot, there will be no winners, and no one will be able to benefit from it," Lucas himself commented on his decision.

"The missed opportunity will not only rob us of a world-class cultural landmark, but it will cost Chicagoans thousands of jobs, millions of dollars in investment and endless educational opportunities for the city's youth," Mayor Rem Emanuel said in a statement.

Recall that Lucas planned to invest about $ 700 million of his own funds in the construction of the museum. Now he will start looking for a new "home" for his brainchild. Most likely, he will find it in Los Angeles or San Francisco.
