Benicio Del Toro will play a Cuban gangster
Paramount and Appian Way have acquired the movie rights to an as yet unpublished novel by T. Jay English, The Corporation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the partners have prevailed in intense competition with other Hollywood studios, and the deal is estimated at several million dollars. The work tells the real story of the Cuban mafia in the United States from the late 50s to the mid 80s of the last century. The plot revolves around Jose Miguel Battle, who at one time took part in the infamous Bay of Pigs operation organized by the CIA to overthrow the Fidel Castro regime. Once captured, he spent several years in Cuban prisons, then returned to the United States and became the organizer of one of the most influential criminal groups called the "Corporation". Benicio Del Toro is expected to play the lead role. One of the co-owners of the Appian Way studio Leonardo DiCaprio will be the producer of the project. The work itself will be published in 2017. The terms of work on the project and its possible rental schedule have not been specified at the time of this writing.
