The Lionsgate Film Studio intends to make a movie based on Homer's poem "The Odyssey". According to Deadline, the creator of the movie "I Am Legend" and "Constantine: Lord of Darkness" Francis Lawrence received an offer to lead the project.

Peter Craig and Suzanne Collins, with whom Lawrence worked on the adaptation of the last two episodes of The Hunger Games, will be scripted.

Recall that the work attributed to the ancient Greek poet was written around the 8th century BC. In the center of the plot is Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, returning from the Trojan War. On his way, he meets many mythical creatures, such as the cyclops Polyphemus, the sorceress Kirka, the demigod Aeolus and others. Odysseus himself is the narrator.

The work has been repeatedly movieed earlier, including by the USA director Andrei Konchalovsky. His movie, starring Armand Asante, was released in 1997.

The shooting of the new movie will most likely start in early 2016. The rental schedule of the painting has not yet been specified.

Note that Francis Lawrence has several promising projects in mind, including one dedicated to the biblical strongman Samson. His latest movie at the time of this writing, the final episode of The Hunger Games, will be presented to viewers in November 2015.
