Racial politics will take a back seat to issues of class and sexual inequality when American Crime anthology returns to ABC for a second season next year. The show's creator and executive producer, John Ridley, said this in response to questions from TV Line.

"In Season 1, we dealt with racial prejudice and faith; in Season 2, we want to touch on the topic of class inequality. We we want to touch upon the gender issue, issues of sexual orientation and sexual identity, "Ridley said in particular.

In addition to the change of themes, in the second season there will be territorial changes – the drama will move from Northern California to the Midwest and tell about a new incident. According to the information received by the publication, the action will take place at an elite prep school that prides itself on a scattered student body, including a gay basketball star.

"It will be a whole different story," Ridley added. "We hope we can not only make it provocative, but uncover humanity in people. If American Crime has any merit, it is that we are really discussing issues that usually look like simple headlines in newspapers accompanied by photographs. I believe we can do this in second season ".

Stars of the first season – Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman – will return in season two with new roles. Ridley does his best to have the other cast members join them, however,
