BBC One has commissioned the production of McMafia, a drama about the world of international organized crime, to be curated by Hussein Amini (The Two Faces of January) and James Watkins (The Woman in Black). The series, based on Misha Glenny's 2008 bestseller What Is the Mafia, promises to provide a hard-hitting look at global crime and its far-reaching impact. This is reported by the Deadline.

Amini and Watkins will focus on a USA family living in exile in London as a starting point. Further, their epic journey will show money launderers in Dubai, cyber criminals in India, speculators in Zagreb, drug dealers in Colombia, USA oligarchs in London and Bedouin smugglers in the Negev desert. In this world, race, religion, skin color and political bias are irrelevant when it comes to making a big deal.

In addition to Amini and Watkins, the writing team includes David Farr ("The Night Administrator"), Peter Harness ("Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell ") and Lawrence Corea (Wonderland). The production will be handled by Cuba Pictures.

"I've always been a fan of gangster sagas, but Misha Glenny's book was the first book I read to show the complexity and scale of 21st century organized crime," he said in his Amini's statement, who is also working on the adaptation of "Alienist" with Carey Fukunaga. - The lines between gangsters, bankers, politicians and spies have been erased, and the whole world turned into a battlefield in this global gangster war. I'm thrilled to be able to work with such amazing writers on the show and hope we have an epic and authentic story in the best traditions of the genre. "
