Turner, a subsidiary of Time Warner, has acquired the television rights to 10 Star Wars movies from Walt Disney, including four yet to be movieed by Lucasmovie. It is reported by the Variety edition. A similar agreement was signed with 20th Century Fox, which owns the rights to the original 1977 movie.

Episodes of the famous space saga will be broadcast on TBS and TNT. The cost of the license, which will expire no earlier than 2022, is estimated at $ 250 million. The largest part of this amount, about $ 40 million, was paid for the right to show the movie Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens.

The latter will be shown by Turner in 2018, following the completion of Walt Disney's current contract with Starz. The first spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be released in 2019. TNT viewers will be able to watch the first six episodes of Star Wars starting September 20, 2016.

Turner will also be able to offer all of these movies on its own digital distribution platforms. The parties' representatives refuse to comment on the deal.
