The Academy Awards presented its first 2016 Oscars to screenwriters. In the Best Screenplay category, the winners were Thomas McCarthy and Josh Singer, screenwriters for Spotlight, both of which were their first Academy Awards. The two previously shared a BAFTA 2016 award in a similar category.

The Best Adapted Screenplay award went to Adam McKay and Charles Randolph, scriptwriters of The Short Game. It was also the first Oscar for both laureates. The movie has previously received a BAFTA 2016 Best Adapted Screenplay award.

Recall that the awards ceremony was held at the Hollywood Dolby Theater. The show was hosted by popular comedian Chris Rock. The full list of nominees is available in a special section of our portal - "Oscar 2016".
