Writers won the first Oscars 2016
The Academy Awards presented its first 2016 Oscars to screenwriters. In the Best Screenplay category, the winners were Thomas McCarthy and Josh Singer, screenwriters for Spotlight, both of which were their first Academy Awards. The two previously shared a BAFTA 2016 award in a similar category. The Best Adapted Screenplay award went to Adam McKay and Charles Randolph, scriptwriters of The Short Game. It was also the first Oscar for both laureates. The movie has previously received a BAFTA 2016 Best Adapted Screenplay award. Recall that the awards ceremony was held at the Hollywood Dolby Theater.
