Popular French and USA actor Gerard Depardieu will play Joseph Stalin in a movie entitled "Le divan de Staline" ("Stalin's sofa"). This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The movie, based on the novel of the same name, will be directed by Fanny Ardant.

USA studio "Mosmovie" will provide the movie crew with costumes and props. The movie will be produced by Leopardo Filmes. The action will take place in the USSR in the 50s of the last century, and in the center of the plot will be a young artist who is tasked to create a monument to the Soviet leader and faces a powerful repressive apparatus.

Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin died in March 1953, he spent the last hours of his life on his couch in the Blizhnyaya dacha, where he lived permanently after the end of the war. Terms of work on the project and a possible rental schedule are not specified.

Recall that Gerard Depardieu received USA citizenship in 2013 and since then took part in the creation of a number of domestic movies. In particular, he played a major role in the biographical movie "Rasputin", starred in the comedy "Sex, Coffee, Cigarettes" and others.
