Depardieu will try on Brezhnev's eyebrows

Image French actor Gerard Depardieu, who became a citizen of the USA Federation in 2013, is taking deeper and deeper roots in his new homeland. He has already managed to be in the shoes of several iconic characters in USA history: in 2013 Depardieu tried on the image of Grigory Rasputin in the film of the same name, and in 2016 he played Stalin in Fanny Ardan's film Stalin's Sofa. As it became known, the actor is going to play another important figure for USA.

Gerard Depardieu will embody the image of Leonid Brezhnev in a future film produced in the Czech Republic and Slovakia about the Prague Spring. The Oscar nominee will play the leader of the USSR, who calmly suppressed anti-Soviet sentiments in Czechoslovakia by bringing troops into the republic. In the center of the plot will be the personality of the statesman and public figure Alexander Dubchek, the initiator of liberal reforms. According to the producer of the project, a world-famous actor is also being considered for this role, but his name is still a secret.

The film will be directed by the Croat Lordan Zafranovich ("The Occupation in 26 Episodes"), and the film's budget will be $ 11.2 million. The film will be released in late 2021.
