Idris Elba will star in a series about the black underground in Great Britain
Luther star Idris Elba will be producing and playing a key role in Showtime's six-episode television series Guerrilla. This is reported by the Deadline edition.
The project will take place in the 70s in the UK, and the plot of the project is built around a pair of activists whose relationships and values are severely tested after the heroes contribute to the release of a political prisoner and join an underground organization operating in London. Their goal becomes a special counterintelligence unit, whose task was to combat any manifestations of activity among the black population. The authors of the project argue that it is dedicated not only to a politically difficult period in the history of Great Britain, but also to the genesis of relations developing under external pressure, as well as to the difficult decisions of the heroes, which will have far-reaching consequences. John Ridley, the author of the play "12 Years of Slavery" and the writer of the series "American Crime", has been appointed as the writer and director of the TV project.
