Ben Hur will be the biggest flop of the summer season
The movie "Ben-Hur", which was shot in Hollywood by USA director Timur Bekmambetov, will be the biggest failure of the 2016 summer season. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, citing its sources, the Paramount / MGM joint project could bring about $ 120 million in losses. At the time of this writing, the picture has earned at the worldwide box office only 54 million dollars, of which 25 in North America. Ben-Hur has not yet started on all movie markets, but one cannot expect that the situation will change significantly in the near future. The movie's final box office is estimated by experts at $ 75 million. At the same time, the production budget was $ 100 million, an unspecified amount was also spent on promoting the project. The main blow will be taken by the MGM studio, which formed up to 80 percent of the budget, and assumed the main advertising costs. Paramount's losses will amount to about $ 13 million. Representatives of movie studios refuse to discuss their losses, however, the management of MGM has already notified its shareholders that the forecast for profit by the end of the fiscal year will be revised downward precisely because of the failure of Ben Hur.
