Matthew McConaughey explained in an interview with Playboy: why he refused to participate in the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy 2", which is based on the Marvel comics, and preferred the picture "Dark Tower", based on the works of the popular American writer Stephen King.

"I love Guardians of the Galaxy. But what was going on there? Yes, he was very successful, and now we have the opportunity to invite another eminent actor to play one of the important roles. I felt like some kind of correction ", he said.

Note that the official role that was offered to the actor was not named. It was speculated that he could play the antagonist and possibly the mysterious father of the protagonist Peter Quill.

As a reminder, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be presented to viewers in May 2017. The main roles in the movie were played by Zoe Soldana, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Karen Gillan, Sylvester Stallone, Bradley Cooper, Dave Batista, Kurt Russell and other actors.

As for The Dark Tower, its release, which has been repeatedly postponed earlier, is scheduled for late July 2017. In this project, McConaughey will become Randal Flagg, better known as the Man in Black, who appears in several of King's works.
