Kurt Sutter and FX have announced the cast of the pilot for the historical drama "The Bastard Executioner", consisting of both familiar faces and newcomers. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The protagonist of "The Bastard Executioner" is a former warrior-knight Wilkin Brattle in the army of King Edward I, who, tired of the ravages of war, dreams of laying down his arms. But when violence finds him again, he is forced to raise his sword, bloody as never before. The role of Wilkin Brattle went to Australian theatrical actor Lee Jones.

Flora Spencer-Longhurst (Wallander) will play Baroness Lowry "Love" Aberffroe Ventris. Smart, kind and beautiful, she comes from a wealthy Welsh family, and married Ventris at 17 to preserve the family lands. Her duties as a noble lady always conflict with her Welsh pride.

Stephen Moyer ("True Blood") will appear as Milus Corbett, an intelligent, experienced and noble character, formerly one of the warlords in the Ventris army. Now he combines the duties of chamberlain, counselor, justicar, friend and drinking companion of Ventris.

Katie Sagal ("Sons of Anarchy"), the wife of Sutter, will play the role of the beautiful and mysterious Annora, who has the gift of foresight and knowledge in the field medicine.

Sutter himself, as it was in "Sons of Anarchy", will play in the pilot the regular role of Dark Mute, Annora's assistant and protector. He rarely speaks, and no one has ever seen his face.

Sam Spruell ("No. 44") will play Toran Pritchard, an archer, who participated in the last major rebellion led by Madog Llywelyn. He put his bow down, took up his hoe and is Wilkin's best buddy.

Darren Evans ("Galavant") got the role of Ash Godwig, the hunter and "child of the forest," Wilkin's friend.

Danny Sapani ("Trance") will portray Berber de Moore, a large, educated man who converted to Islam, a farmer and Wilkin's friend.

Timothy W. Murphy ("Sons of Anarchy") got the role of Ruskin's father, muscular but soft a man who has curbed his rage. He is a former soldier who left the service to pursue seminary. Father Ruskin is a priest, rector and court teacher.

Sarah White (Doctors) will play Isabelle Kiffin, Lady Love's maid and confidante.

Sarah Sweeney (Holby City) ) will appear as Jessami Maddox. She is a beautiful but addicted executioner's wife.

Matthew Reese ("The Americans") has been cast as guest star of Gruffudd Blade, the leader of the Welsh resistance, an intelligent, fearless nobleman.

Sutter will write the script and will share executive producer duties with fellow Sons of Anarchy Paris Barclay, who will movie the pilot. Production will begin on March 19 in Wales.
