Channel FX has officially commissioned the production of a pilot for the spin-off of the cult series "Sons of Anarchy", called "Mayans MC" and will focus on the history of the Mayans Motorcycle Club from the original show. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Sons of Anarchy creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James wrote the script for the pilot episode. Both will executive produce the drama from Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. Sutter will movie the pilot himself, and production begins in March 2017.

Mayans MC is set in a post-Teller world where Mayan biker club candidate Eze Rise is battling his passion for revenge against the cartel and win the respect of the women he loves.

The Mayans played a significant role in the Sons of Anarchy series, which became the highest rated drama on the FX channel in seven years of broadcast.

Sutter first spoke about his desire to direct a spin-off of the popular series in August 2015, ahead of the release his new historical drama, The Bastard Executioner, later closed after the first season. He noted that the spin-off will be a completely different show and that "the tonality, rhythm and storytelling will be unique." The potential show will not be set in Northern California, as in Sons of Anarchy.
