The long-suffering movie adaptation of the popular work of Paulo Coelho "The Alchemist" has finally found a new home. According to Deadline, the movie will be produced by Sony's TriStar Pictures division.

The production of the movie will involve PalmStar Media, which a few days before this announcement acquired the movie rights from The Weinstein Company for 6.5 million dollars, as well as Cinema Gypsy, owned by Laurence Fishburne. The latter, who has been trying unsuccessfully to movie "The Alchemist" for many years, will take the post of director.

Note that earlier Idris Elba was listed as the leading actor. Whether he will remain a member of the project was not specified at the time of this writing.

Recall that the novel was published in 1988, and since then has been translated into dozens of languages and sold over 65 million copies worldwide. The plot is based on the classic scheme of "finding the meaning of life and yourself." Laurence Fishburne acquired the movie rights to The Alchemist from Warner Bros. in 2007, and a year later he signed an agreement with The Weinstein Company on the joint production of the picture. It was alleged that the parties had already agreed on the budget for the project, but in 2015 The Weinstein Company refused to shoot the movie.
