The famous Hollywood composer John Williams has been honored with the American Film Institute's Special Award for Personal Achievement and Contribution to the Development of Cinematography. This is reported on the official website of the organization.

"John Williams has created the soundtrack of our lives. Note by note, chord by chord, his genius blessed the union of music and movie, elevating it to the level of classical symphonies, and inspiring generations of audiences. It is a great honor for the Film Institute to present this award to the maestro." - said in a statement by Sir Howard Stringer, head of the Institute's Board of Trustees.

The ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on June 9, 2016. Note that John Williams will be the first composer to receive this American Film Institute award. Let's also remind that Williams is the absolute record holder for the number of nominations for the Academy Award: the master has more than forty Oscar nominations and five gold statuettes.

The composer has soundtracks to such famous cycles as "Star Wars", "Jaws", "Indiana Jones", "Jurassic Park", "Harry Potter" and many popular solo projects such as "Alien", "The List Schindler "," Minority Report "and dozens of others.
