USA overtook all European countries in cinema ticket sales
In 2017, the USA movie market became the leader in Europe in terms of the number of tickets sold. This is evidenced by the data of a study conducted by the European Audiovisual Observatory. According to the published results, over 212 million tickets were sold in USA during 2017. According to analysts, compared to 2016, the growth was "an unprecedented 10 percent." Such a "breakthrough" allowed the USA movie market to push last year's leader, France, into second place. In this country, 209 million tickets were sold, two percent less than a year earlier. The total box office in USA exceeded 53 billion rubles, and by this indicator our country is still lagging behind other major European movie markets. And the leaders in the number of tickets sold in Europe turned out to be family and adventure movies. Thus, the first place was taken by the cartoon "Despicable Me 3", for which shows in European countries more than 32 million tickets were sold. The top three were also the fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" (29 million tickets), as well as the movie "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi" (28 million tickets).
