The organizers of the 72nd International Cannes Film Festival have chosen the opening movie. According to an official press release received by the Novosti Kino portal, it will be a black comedy called "The Dead Don't Die" directed by Jim Jarmusch.

The movie is set in the town of Centerville, residents which are forced to defend themselves from the hordes of the risen dead. Key roles were played by Chloe Sevigny, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, Caleb Landry Jones, Selena Gomez, Bill Murray, Austin Butler and other actors. Note that Jarmusch is no stranger to Cannes, his paintings have previously repeatedly participated in competitive programs and retrospectives. His new work will be widely released in mid-June. As for the full list of participants in the main competition of the festival, then it will be announced on April 18.

The 72nd Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 14 to May 25, 2019. Its international jury will be chaired by Academy Award winner Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
