The American Film Academy expelled the famous Hollywood director Roman Polanski from its ranks. According to an official press release, which was received by Novosti Kino, this decision was made because "the stay of this person no longer meets the new ethical standards of the organization."

"The Board of Governors continues to promote the norms which require members to uphold the Academy's values of respect for human dignity, "the statement reads. The popular actor Bill Cosby, who was accused of sexual harassment, was also ostracized.

Recall that Roman Polanski was accused of seducing a minor Samantha Gamer in 1977. Fearing legal action, he fled the USA and settled in Europe. The American authorities have sought the director's extradition for several decades, but to no avail. In 2009, Polanski was detained in Switzerland, where he arrived at a movie festival, and placed in custody. However, after lengthy proceedings, the country's authorities refused to extradite him to the United States, and the director was released.

Roman Polanski four times nominated for the Academy Award and won one statuette in 2003. He himself did not attend the awards ceremony.
