What We Know About Diablo 4: Plot, Facts, Potential Release

7 years after Diablo 3 was released, Blizzard finally announced Diablo 4. Many game titles that attended Blizzcon 2019 were even able to play a demo of the game, despite the fact that it is only on one from the early stages of development. We've put together facts for you about the new Diablo, its storyline, characters, Lilith's antagonist and heroes to answer the question: “What do we know about Diablo IV?”

Mother Sanctuary Returns

As previously assumed, the main villain in the game will be Lilith, the mother of all mankind. If you're not following the series, Diablo 4 takes place right after Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls. At this point, the gates of heaven were closed after Malthael, the Angel of Death, destroyed much of Sanctuary.

Because Heaven is ignoring this event, Lilith, daughter of Mephisto and mother of all mankind, is released from her prison.

What we know about the world of Diablo 4 right now is that we will have an open world with five unique regions, changing cycles of day and night and dynamic, ever-changing weather. The missions in the game are not linear and, according to the game manager, you can take them and complete them as you please.

As in previous games, we will go down to the dungeons. They are generated randomly, similar to Diablo 3. The developer assures us that there will be “hundreds of dungeons” waiting for us to explore, and in them we will find hundreds of legendary items and equipment "

Despite the fact that we will be waiting for constant cleaning of the dungeons, the press itself praises this process. So, Eurogamer calls the game a great adventure. The demo showed three characters: a druid, a sorceress and a barbarian. Evasion has also come to play an important role in battle, so in Diablo 4 you can dash or jump a short distance. The ultimate ability is also important, and in the case of a druid, he summons a tornado surrounded by lightning, and a wizard, who also returned from the second part, creates a ball with lightning.

Leveling up is no different from the previous game. As in previous Diablo games, you spend skill points to upgrade your hero, and you can unlock new abilities at higher levels. The Diablo 3 rune skill system is gone.

In addition to skills, there is also a talent tree, just like in World of Warcraft. Each class has dozens of options to choose from for further customization and assembly.

But Diablo 4's biggest idea is that it's still a non-linear, shared open world, which means that for the first time we won't go from Act 1 to Act 2 to Act 3, opening up a new area each time.

Just a little bit

Moreover, other players will appear in the game, which means you will not be able to play Diablo 4 offline. This is how events will be held in the game, and players will trade with each other. In fact, if we talk about the difference between the game and the previous ones, the developer claims that the fourth part takes a little bit of the best from Diablo's past. Again, as Adham says:

“There are many new mechanics, but only a little. I'll cover a few. But what pervades the game at all levels is a huge open world. This is what we can do in the Diablo series for the first time thanks to the modern engine we work on. So when you see a demo, or you see a gameplay trailer, or watch a scene as you emerge from a dungeon, you are looking at the long horizon. This is the real geometry of the world and you can easily walk through it all.

So it's a sense of the open world, its scale, and how realistic the world is trying to be. Multiplayer mechanics are a social element. You can play alone or in a group, we think most people will do both depending on the mood they are in. You can go down to the dungeon with friends or alone while probing Diablo. These are two powerful aspects.

There are many other things you will see, such as the return of PvP or trade, world bosses, or more subtle character development "

“In the demo it was automatically a shared world, we didn't have to approve or invite anything into the game, and several players appeared at the world boss that we killed and earned, I think, our own individual loot. I'm thinking about this mechanic, a bit like Destiny "- describes Eurogamer.

The open world of Diablo 4 will be much larger than the world of Diablo 3 - 10 or 20 times larger. In it, other players are likely to be found in city hubs, where you can trade with them. But how you participate in PvP is not yet clear, this information is being kept under wraps.

“However, we can say that the philosophy we are approaching in PvP is this: since Diablo is a monster-killing and looting game, there will be some part of that process in PvP,” said one from Eurogamer Developers - "This will not be just one-on-one combat, but a gladiator-style combat."

More importantly, "If you are the kind of player who never wants to play PvP, we are not going to let someone attack you."

World Bosses and Gloom

World bosses are especially powerful characters that will appear on the map from time to time. To fill them up you need perseverance, but they will drop cool loot, including legendary weapons. When asked how the developer will control the fact that players are likely to jump from one game to another in order to farm the same bosses, the answer was “we don't know yet.”

Another important feature of Diablo 4 is its focus on being dark in visuals and atmosphere, as in the original Diablo games, away from the bright and cartoonish image of the third part. In the demo, everything is noticeably darker, grayer, dark blood is spilled everywhere, and pierced corpses are scattered around. It's a dark and gloomy place.

What's taking so long?

Diablo 4 probably won't be out anytime soon. During Blizzcon, the game director said that he does not expect the game to be completed anytime soon, “not even by Blizzard standards anytime soon.”

Game Informer asked Alan Adham a question: "Since the game is still waiting for so long, why did you need to make an announcement right now?".

“Most people ask why we didn't announce a release last year. We were very happy to share this game with the whole world. We've been working on it for a while now. And I feel like it's a kind of catharsis when I can finally announce it and speak and openly. Only now we finally have the result of our labors and an excellent demo that you can play. And so we are very happy with where we are now, very happy with the demo and feel that the reason to announce it now is that we finally have a great story to tell, "Adham replied.

However, the fact that the team is developing the game for PS4 and Xbox One pretty much implies that the game will be released within the next two to three years - as these consoles will soon expire after the launch of the next generation consoles.

Recall that before that we had rumors that the studio was developing a game similar to Dark Souls, but with elements of Diablo 3. Also, according to Kotaku, the studio was engaged in the isometric RPG Fenris. Many believed that these two projects were originally Diablo 4, while others are sure that these are new separate projects that have been postponed for a while to focus on Diablo 4, Overwatch 2 and Diablo Immortal. So far, that's all we know about Diablo 4.
