Security experts at data protection company Symantec have discovered a virus on Android that is highly resistant to all attempts to get rid of it. Gadgets based on the Android operating system are at risk of the new xHelper malware.
A virus program affects the smartphone's RAM, significantly reducing it, while the external manifestation of the malicious code is reflected on the screen, where advertisements constantly pop up. In addition to this, a virus on a smartphone starts to host the Internet and independently opens application sites, offering to download them.
This leads to the fact that some applications selected by "smart" malware include a more dangerous Trojan variant of xHelper. It, in turn, is fixed in the system as an independent application, and the removal of the originally infected predecessor does not automatically get rid of the Trojan.
You can get malware on your smartphone at the same time as other applications. A similar plan Android-viruses of the xHelper family appeared in the spring, but its new variant, recently discovered, is distinguished by its uniqueness and increased "survivability".
It is not easy to get rid of malicious code - the virus continues to be active even after the infected application is removed. The new virus for android is not visible in the general list of all installed programs and, in addition, it can reinstall itself. You cannot get rid of the new xHelper variant even after returning to the factory settings of the device. For such features, experts gave it the symbolic name of a "zombie" - a virus.
The virus code has already covered about fifty thousand gadgets, and the geography of its distribution mainly covers users from USA, India and the United States. According to security experts, about 130 smartphones are infected every day, and this figure reaches 2,400 per month. No software cure for the virus has yet been found, so experts recommend that users be careful when installing programs from unverified sources.
