Ridley Scott wants to bring Maximus to life
In the history of Hollywood there have been many high-profile film projects that never went into production. One of them, of course, is the sequel to the famous historical epic " Gladiator ".Ridley Scott's tape was released in 2000. Gladiator has earned more than $ 457 million at the box office and has won five Oscars , including Best Picture of the Year. The picture also managed to give a second wind to the career of Scott . In the 21st century, the eminent Briton began not only to release films on screens almost every year, but also to actively produce ambitious television projects. So, at the moment Ridley is involved in the creation of the popular TV series "The Man in the High Castle" and "Taboo". While the original film was a complete story, DreamWorks was eager to find a way to bring Maximus gladiator back to the screens. Work on the script for the second part was entrusted to Nick Cave, who decided that Russell Crowe's hero would come to life thanks to the Roman gods. Cave was going to send Maximus to the fields of the bloodiest wars in human history, but the bosses of DreamWorks did not dare to implement the scenario of the tape with the provocative title “ Gladiator 2: The Killer of Christ ".  The project was sent to the shelf, but in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly Ridley Scott admitted that he is seriously considering the idea of resurrecting a sequel. “I know how to return Maximus , - the director admitted. -I already discussed this project with the studio bosses, who naturally said, “But he’s dead.” However, I have a way to bring this hero back to the screens. I don't know if we will be able to realize this idea. " Gladiator " was released in 2000, and Russell has changed slightly since then. Now he is busy with other work, but I persuade him to think about a sequel. ” Scott hasn't gone into project details yet. Recently, the 79-year-old director, either jokingly or seriously, announced that his upcoming film Alien: Covenant will open not a trilogy, but a whole hexalogy of prequels to his famous sci-fi thriller Alien. If Scott is really going to make five more xenomorph films, it's hard to imagine when he will find time to work on the sequel to " Gladiator ".  Yesterday, Ridley received a standing ovation at the South by Southwest festival, where he presented several scenes from Testament to the public.
