The last sabbatical of Paul Verhoeven lasted for a whole decade. The Black Book was released in 2006, and the director's next full-length film, the thriller She, was released only last year. However, fans of his work won't have to wait long for new work from Verhoeven .Producer Said Ben Said announced that the Dutch filmmaker is preparing a new project, which will appeal to the popular characters of 70s European cinema - the nuns. The main role in the film Blessed Virgin is assigned to Virginie Efira ("In bed with Victoria"). Like "She" , the film will be shot in French. Work on it should start in autumn. The film will be an adaptation of the book Immodest Acts: The Life Of A Lesbian Nun In Renaissance Italy , written by the historian Judith Brown . It was originally aboutsister Benedetta Carlini , who lived in the 17th century. The mystical abilities of the nun, who allegedly attended visions, and the wedding she arranged with Jesus led the church to investigate her deeds. As a result, it turned out that Sister Benedetta was in a relationship with another nun. Carlini justified herself by the fact that the spirit of a man had infiltrated her body, but she was still accused of falsifying miracles, homosexuality and other immoral acts. Sister Benedetta was imprisoned in the convent, where she died 35 years later.  An ambiguous story that combines the issues of religion and sexuality fits into a theme close to Verhoeven . The script for the new tape will be written by Gerard Suteman, who has already collaborated with the director on films such as The Queen's Soldiers, The Fourth Man, Turkish Delights and The Black Book .
