In each of his films, Olivier Assayas in every possible way avoids the stereotypes, trying to talk with ease about complex things. No wonder he is considered one of the brightest French directors of our time. At last year's Venice Film Festival, Assayas presented his next work - the film "Double Life", which critics called almost the best tragicomedy of recent years.Alain runs a reputable publishing house. His wife, Selena, is a television star tired of fame and hungry for more. Leonard is a depressed writer with a long history of collaboration with Alain. Suddenly, the latter refuses to print Leonard's new manuscript, although Selena has a different opinion. A crisis has come in the life of each of the main characters, they are entangled in a web of mistrust and betrayal, and small but scary skeletons in the closet do not allow them to follow the wind of change and live happily on. Double Life touches on a variety of topics, from the midlife crisis and cinema to the impact of modern technology on life in general and publishing in particular. However, Assayas does not overload the viewer with philosophical reflections, but offers to take part in an unpretentious conversation under a glass of red wine with Guillaume Canet, Juliette Binoche, Vincent Maken, Crista Teret and Nora Hamzavi.
