In recent years, many creators of big cinema have been looking towards television, which promises great creative freedom and does not impose serious requirements on timing. Wong Kar-wai will try to taste the benefits of the Golden Era of TV, who decided to transform the film project "Blossom" into the series "Blooming Shanghai".On account of Kar-Wai four dozen professional awards - from the Cannes Film Festival prize for directing "Happy Together" and ending with four statuettes of the Hong Kong Film Association. "Blooming Shanghai" will be his first series in his career. The plot will be based on the national Chinese bestseller "Blossom". Jin Yucheng's novel was published in 2012 and won one of the main literary awards of the Celestial Empire - the Mao Dun Prize. Filming was supposed to start in early summer, but the COVID-19 pandemic intervened. Apparently, Wong used the pause to rework the format of the adaptation. He is expected to serve as producer of the series and director of the opening episode.  The series will tell about the rapid economic growth of Shanghai in the 90s of the last century.
