The Other Side of Hollywood

Image AGC Studios and Stampede will shed light on one of the darkest chapters in Hollywood and US law enforcement history. The studios will take viewers back to 1997, when the largest shootout in America took place in Los Angeles.

On February 28, 1997, repeat offenders Larry Philips and Emil Matasarianu arrived in North Hollywood to rob the local branch of Bank of America. The bandits expected the police to arrive only in eight minutes, but caught the eye of the crew of the patrol car. When Phillips and Matasarianu left the bank with $ 303,000, two dozen police cars were already waiting for them. The robbers did not think of anything better than to open heavy fire on the guards of the law.

Soon a bloody carnage unfolded on the street. The bandits wore homemade armor, which made them virtually invulnerable to the shots of police pistols. Moreover, the criminals were much better armed. They had several machine guns at their disposal, the bullets of which easily punched holes in the cars. The California authorities had to throw armored vehicles and more than three hundred police officers into battle. Eleven of them received injuries of varying severity. As a result, the robbers shot almost all the ammunition. Phillips was cornered and committed suicide. Matasarianu tried to flee, but received eleven gunshot wounds and died of blood loss.

A massive shootout in Los Angeles led US police to use M16 assault rifles and began to further reinforce the doors of patrol cars. The script for North Hollywood will be written by Russell Gevirtz (Not Caught - Not a Thief), and Albert Hughes (From Hell, The Book of Eli) will sit in the director's chair of the action-packed thriller.
