Sam Rockwell conquers the country scene
Film company Amazon Studios has decided to shoot a biopic Merle Haggard: Salute to A Country Legend about the life of country music artist Merle Haggard. Oscar winner Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) will embody the image of the legendary musician on the screen. The actor will independently perform the songs that Haggard recorded in the 60s of the last century - it is during this period that the action of the upcoming film will unfold.Filming will be directed by Robin Bissell, who will also write the script with the musician's widow. The plot of the biopic is based on Haggard's memoir Sing Me Back Home. The musician has lived a long and eventful life, but the drama will focus directly on how Haggard, who grew up in difficult conditions, from a prison inmate of San Quentin, became one of the greatest performers in American history. While serving his sentence, Haggard was fortunate enough to attend Johnny Cash's first performance in prison. This performance changed the life of a prisoner who decided to leave his dark past behind and become a musician.  This is not the first time the film director has worked with Rockwell - they previously collaborated on the filming of the drama Best Enemies.
