Real Time Warfare

Image The creators of the war drama "1917" will give viewers an unforgettable cinematic experience. Director Sam Mendes confirmed rumors that the action of his film will unfold in real time. Moreover, the film will do without visible cuts and will look as if it was shot in one shot.

The plot will center on two British soldiers who will cross enemy territory to deliver important information to the army leadership.“I wanted to go through every step with the main characters of the picture, - said Mendes. -These guys have been assigned an incredibly difficult mission. We shot the film so that every viewer would put himself in the shoes of the protagonists”.

Luckily for Mendes, he was able to count on the support of one of the greatest cinematographers in film history, Roger Deakins. Last year, the Briton won the long-deserved Oscar from the fourteenth attempt. Looks like this winter Roger will have another hike for the coveted statuette.

A few years ago, American film academics were delighted with the work of Emmanuel Lubezky, who simulated a long take in the film "Birdman". Deakins faced an even more difficult task, because he had to work not in a confined space, but on location, and even coordinate filming with pyrotechnics and visual effects masters. In this regard, the filmmakers created two scripts at once. One was for the actors, and the other was for the film crew, who had to keep a close watch to ensure that the stage returned to its original state with each new take.

According to Mendes, he has never had to rehearse every scene so thoroughly in a film. In order for the camera crew to follow on the heels of the main characters, Deakins needed a detailed plan for moving around the filming locations and a completely new camera. The Arri company came to the rescue of the creators of "1917", which developed the convenient and lightweight Alexa Mini LF.

USA viewers will be able to appreciate Deakins 'cinematography and Mendes' talent as director on February 6 next year.
