A ray of hope has penetrated the dungeons

Image After the screen version of "Warcraft" and plans to turn the graphic novels of the Warhammer 40,000 universe into a television series, the turn came to another hit of board games - Dungeons & Dragons ("Dungeons and dragons"). The long-suffering project is one step closer to production, with sources reporting that Paramount and Hasbro are in talks with directors Jonathan M. Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who recently left the production of the feature-length Flash.

"Dungeons and Dragons" is a role-playing board game that differs from the wargame genre by the freedom of players to create their own characters, and not choose from a given list of military specialties. After entering the characters, the participants are immersed in exciting adventures in a fantasy setting. The player in the role of the Master describes the situation, tells the legend and portrays the side characters, acting at the same time as the judge and the leader of the game. By interacting with each other and with the elements of the imaginary world, participants earn experience points, which remain with the character in the following adventures.

Like the game itself, making the film based on the motives turned into a serious battle, including years of litigation over copyright. Warner Bros. attempted to involve director Chris McKay (Lego The Movie: Batman) in the film adaptation, but he chose to work with Chris Pratt on Ghost Draft for the Skydance film studio. Another blow to the idea of turning a board game into a movie came earlier, when the adaptation of another super popular game did not justify itself: "Warcraft" failed at the box office in the United States, although it attracted an audience in the rest of the world. Dungeons & Dragons would have remained in the drawer if Paramount hadn't gotten started.

Perhaps the impetus for Goldstein and Daley's involvement in the adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons came from last year's film Night Games, about a bunch of friends whose traditional night of board games mixed with a kidnapping investigation. D & D's script was written by Michael Gilio and produced by Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis.
