Lerman and Butterfield will become Republicans

Image Logan Lerman, star of The Hunters, which recently received a second season renewal, and who knows all the secrets of Ace Butterfield's Sex Education, will star in the new political drama College Republicans.

The project, which took first place in the Black List of Best Scripts in 2010, has finally started its journey to the screens. Based on an idea from Wes Jones, the film will be led by Palme d'Or winner James Seamus, who previously worked with Lerman on Outrage.

Lerman will portray the young Lee Atwater on the screen, and Butterfield - Karl Rove, who in the future will take the post of chief adviser to the 43rd US president. The film about the beginning of the careers of two prominent conservative figures in America unfolds in 1973, when the main characters are going to win the election of the chairman of the national republican committee of students at any cost. Rove and Atwater, who spearheaded the former's campaign, set off together on a journey across the south of the country, forging uneasy alliances with people who will become venerable Republican politicians in the future. Among them are Paul Manafort, Roger Stone and Jeff Sessions. Christine Froset ("Finding Alaska") will also take part in the shooting, she will play Kate King - the girl who almost ended the dreams of Atwater and Rove.

The upcoming drama has a long history behind it - once the tape was called Young Americans, the characters of Atwater and Rove were to be performed by Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan, and John Crocidas was going to direct the filming. The highly anticipated project with a new cast will be in production next spring or summer.
