Dennis Quaid and Madeline Mills joined Queen Latifah in the adaptation of Kate DiCamillo's 2001 children's bestseller The Tiger Rising. Rei Jiaratana is the director of the Highland Film Group's project on how teens cope with their emotions.The plot of the novel revolves around a 12-year-old boy named Rob, who finds a cage with a tiger in a thicket. It turns out that the unfortunate animal belongs to the insidious owner of the motel (who will be played by Quaid). With the support of the wise maid Willie Mae (Latif) and his school friend Sistine, Rob intends to end the tiger's suffering, and along with his own.
