Regina King will direct a film about Muhammad Ali

Image Heroes of the past again give inspiration to descendants. Peter Farrelli's drama "Green Book" about black musician Donald Shirley played by Mahershala Ali was in for a triumph at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and BAFTA awards earlier in the year. Not surprisingly, after that, the eyes of young filmmakers turned to other significant figures for African Americans of the 20th century.

Today it became known that Oscar-winning actress Regina King ("If Beale Street Could Talk") will direct a film about Muhammad Ali. The film will be based on the play One Night in Miami by screenwriter Kemp Powers (Star Trek: Discovery), which has been shown in theaters around the world since 2013.

The story begins on the evening of February 25, 1964, when a young boxer named Cassius Clay, who has just become world heavyweight champion, is forced out of town due to racial segregation laws. The athlete, however, does not lose heart and gathers friends in a roadside motel room to celebrate: black rights activist Malcolm X, soul singer Sam Cook and American football star Jim Brown. Unbeknownst to the men, a new era will begin next morning for the African American population in the United States.

Regina King's directorial debut on the big screen seems like a logical continuation of her television career. The actress has already shot 14 episodes for TV for the hits "The Good Doctor", "This is Us", "Scandal" and others. In the near future, King can be seen in Damon Lindelof's new series The Guardians, who escaped the fate of becoming a cartoon.
