Pacific Rim sequel is now being shelved
A couple of months ago, Guillermo del Toro announced that the filming of the sequel to the fantastic action movie " Pacific Rim " will start in November. According to the journalists of The Hollywood Reporter , the director's plans are not destined to come true: the leadership of the studio Legendary Pictures has decided to stop working on the project.It was revealed last week that Legendary bosses have moved the blockbuster King Kong: Skull Island under the wing of the Warner Bros company with which they previously worked. The main reason for this decision was the desire to organize a crossover between the King Kong and Godzilla franchises, but now it became known that another reason for the deal was a conflict between the heads of Legendary and Universal, who are currently partners. In 2013, Legendary President Thomas Tall severed ties with WB and began a partnership with Universal . Thomas brought into the deal the films "Cyber" and "The Seventh Son", which failed to meet the financial expectations of their creators. This summer, Legendary was able to restore its reputation by contributing to Universal hits like Jurassic World and Voice of the Streets. Despite the success of these films in the box office, a conflict erupted between the studio bosses.  Another film del Toro - "Crimson Peak" is called the main reason. Universal was supposed to take part in its financing, but made a condition to reduce the rating of the gothic horror to PG-13 . Lowering the age limit usually guarantees big box-office returns, but Tall supported the director's desire to make an adult-rated film. Ultimately, Legendary had to create the painting on its own.  According to insiders, the leadership of Universal considers other joint projects of the studios to be problematic, namely the horror film Krampus, the drama The Great Wall and the blockbuster Warcraft. The latter is not unreasonably called in the press one of the most anticipated films of the next year, however, according to some reports, the head of Universal Donna Langley is not sure that the adaptation of a popular video game will be able to arouse interest among the average viewer. These speculations were commented on by the director of " Warcraft " Duncan Jones. According to him, Universal bosses would not have set the same release date as " Jurassic World " if they doubted the financial prospects of his tape.  As for the sequel " Pacific Rim ", Legendary wants to continue working with Guillermo del Toro , but is unlikely to be able to secure funding for the film on its own. The possibility of the return of the franchise in the hands of the bosses of WB seems unlikely due to the fact that the previous partners of the company Talla were disappointed with the collection of the first part.
