Journalism Legend Receives Biopic

Image As The Tracking Board exclusively learned, Madbrook Films will produce the biographical drama Nelly Bly , one of the most influential women in American journalism history.

Nelly Bly is the pseudonym of Elizabeth Jane Cochrane , who was born in 1864 (according to other sources - in 1867) in Pennsylvania. The girl from the small town of Cochrane Mills was destined to become one of the first who began to conduct investigative journalism. She gained international fame for her articles on the terrible conditions in which the women of New York work. To study the situation, Nelly Bly herself went to the city slums under the guise of one of the workers.

But perhaps the most famous study of Bligh was the exposure of an insane asylum on Blackwell Island. Then the journalist pretended to be sick and became one of the patients of the institution, so that later in her article she could tell about the disgusting conditions of the insane. After the feature of Nelly hit the front pages of newspapers, legislation was even amended regarding the norms of caring for the mentally ill.

Also Bly traveled around the world, inspired by Jules Verne's novel Around the World in 80 Days , but unlike Phileas Fogg , the girl traveled a long way in 72 days.

Madeleine Sackler and Boyd Holbrook will be producing the new project.
