Colin Firth will wrap Hitler around
A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Universal Studios and Ben Affleck are preparing a film about the US Ghost Army, which has carried out impressive sabotage against Hitler's forces. British film company See-Saw Films has decided to respond to its overseas colleagues with a tape about the exploits of scouts from Foggy Albion.A London studio begins production of a war drama tentatively titled Operation Minced Meat. The plot of the film will be based on the mission of the same name of the MI5 counterintelligence service and the Royal Navy of Great Britain. In 1943, the Allies began preparations for the landing in Sicily. To reduce the presence of German troops on the island, British intelligence officers led by Ewen Montagu and Charles Colmondeli devised a daring plan to deceive the enemy. To implement it, MI5 agents needed a pile of forged documents and the corpse of a homeless man.  The Germans had to believe that the deceased was the captain of the Royal Marines, William Martin. According to the official legend, the officer was involved in a plane crash, after which his body was carried to the shores of Huelva in the company of a suitcase with secret documents. To make this story even more believable, the Times published an official appeal to the Spanish authorities with a request to return the body of the Briton to his homeland. The forged documents immediately found themselves in the hands of the head of the local department of the Abwehr, who forwarded copies of them to Berlin. Adolf Hitler believed in the authenticity of the classified data and began to think that the British were preparing attacks on completely different ports of the Mediterranean. The leader of the Third Reich ordered the transfer of part of the troops to Greece and Sardinia, not yet suspecting that the Allies had already begun the implementation of the Sicilian operation ... The film was written by Michelle Ashford (In the Pacific) and directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love). See-Saw Films has also identified one of the key roles. Oscar-winning Colin Firth ("The King's Speech") will wear the image of Captain Iven Montagu  The search for foreign distributors of the film will begin in the middle of this month at the 72nd International Cannes Film Festival.
