James Wan befriends the Tomminokers

Image For decades, Stephen King's writings have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Hollywood studios, and after the success of It, it shouldn't come as a surprise that some of the most famous contemporary producers in the horror genre wanted to adapt The King of Horror novel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Conjuring and Saw franchise creator James Wan will join forces with Roy Lee (It) to adapt The Tomminokers. They will be supported by Larry Sanitsky, who previously produced a miniseries based on the novel. The new project was submitted to major Hollywood studios and online services, including Netflix, but so far no one has acquired the rights to it. However, given the names of the people behind the adaptation, the buyer will not be long in coming.

The original is set in the town of Haven, Maine, whose inhabitants fall under the influence of a mysterious spaceship buried in a forest. Gradually, the inhabitants of Haven acquire superpowers and begin to lose their human appearance. Only those who are immune to the so-called "transformation" can stop the impending catastrophe ...

Presenting the project to potential buyers, Larry Senitsky noted that "Tomminokers" is an allegorical story about addiction, the meaninglessness of technical evolution out of control, as well as the danger of nuclear energy and mass hysteria, that is, about the problems that concern modern society .

The novel was published in 1987. Literary critics consider "Tomminokers" one of King's worst works, and the author himself called the book terrible, claiming that he wrote it while under the influence of alcohol. Despite this, the book is one of the best-selling books in King's bibliography, and in 1993 it was adapted for small screens. The main roles in the TV series "Tomminokers" were played by Marg Helgenberger and Jimmy Smits. NBC wanted to shoot its own version five years ago, but the project remained on paper.

King once admitted that the 700-page Tomminokers hides a great novel of only 350 pages, and it is hoped that James Wang will be able to capture the main thing in the work and successfully transfer it to the big screens.
