Harvey the Rabbit Will Ride to Hollywood

Image Shrek II and The Smurfs screenwriters J. David Stem and David N. Weiss will script the Harvey remake, which is in development at the online service Netflix. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Studio Fabrica de Cine, which deals with Martin Scorsese's Irishman for the streaming giant, is producing the tape.

The classic 1950s film follows the rich man Elwood P. Dowd, played by James Stewart. One day the hero meets a hefty rabbit named Harvey. The trouble is, only Elwood can see the huge animal. The film is based on the play by Mary Chase, for which she received the Pulitzer Prize.

Hollywood has long planned to stage a remake on the tape, for the role in which Stewart received an Oscar nomination. In 2009, Steven Spielberg even took the director's chair for the project for DreamWorks and Fox, but later turned down from participating in the production of the tape due to creative differences.
