Brighter than the sun: Cannes publishes official poster

Image At the very end of March, the film world lost the independent French director Agnes Varda, who throughout her career never stopped experimenting with genres and forms. Her films were often popular with the general public, although they remained intimate and very personal. In addition, Agnes has always been a guest of honor at the Cannes Film Festival, and therefore it is not surprising that this year the management of the show decided to honor the memory of the director by dedicating an official poster to her. It captures a still quite inexperienced, but already such a brave 26-year-old girl filming her first film, Pointe-Curt.

The poster conveys the atmosphere that prevailed on the set of the picture: Ward had a limited budget, and her operators filmed with a hand-held camera, and the seductive landscapes of the French south became the best scenery. The artists also managed to convey the character of the Frenchwoman - mischievous, but assertive. She seems to climb higher and higher to pave her way not only to Cannes, but also to independent cinema. In the future, she became a support for all novice directors, emphasizing every time: she does not want to be singled out as a successful female director, but wants to be taken seriously by colleagues of any gender.

During her career, Agnes Varda became a laureate of the Cannes Film Festival several times in various categories and even was a member of its jury in 2005. And she dedicated her honorary Palm Branch to“all the brave and inventive filmmakers who, remaining in the shadows, create eternal cinema”. This year, the wonderful Agnes will inspire a new generation of directors, contestants and festival guests.
